WORLD LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN CALIFORNIA
The California Department of Education (CDE) establishes standards and frameworks for 世界通用语言s. Content standards are designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, 概念, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level or content area. Curriculum frameworks provide guidance to educators, 父母, 和出版商, to support implementing California content standards. The CDE also provides information and resources for instructional materials.

OVERVIEW OF WORLD LANGUAGE EDUCATIoN IN SDUHSD
World language is not a requirement to graduate from SDUHSD. Coursework in languages other than 英语 fulfills elective credits.
To apply to most four-year colleges, students must earn a C grade or higher in two years of the same language other than 英语, with three years recommended, 或同等. 学生 may take as many world languages as their schedule will allow, but prerequisites and department recommendations should be followed.
SDUHSD offers courses in American Sign Language, 法国, 日本, Mandarin 中国人, and 西班牙语. Please see school websites for course offerings.
中学
学生 in grades 7 & 8 may begin studies in select languages other than 英语. Middle school courses may be used to satisfy college entrance requirements and prerequisites for high school courses but no high school credit will be granted for courses taken during middle school.
高中
学生 in grades 9-12 may take world language courses offered by their school or pursue off-campus coursework in languages that SDUHSD does not offer. Please work directly with the student's school counselor.
